One time my wife blamed me for shaving my head without showering thus leaving small hairs on the bed as I lay there.

I was lost for words for a few seconds without any nonsense excuse coming out of my mouth except "I aaa I showered my head afterwards with the shower head". She looked at me as the idiot that I am and I was about to concede the fight but just then I found a small nail clipping from her own nail clipping earlier.

That shred of nail was the most beautiful thing ive ever seen in my life. I grasped it like Gollum to his ring and said "yesssss my preciooussss, this is YOUR toenail wench! You spread things on the bed without cleaning up! You're aa filthy as me! As guilty as me!"

She said: "just shower already."

I would have none of her lip now that we were even, but I decided it may be the right thing to do anyway and started moving towards the shower.

As I kept moving and screaming a nail a naillll!!! She asked: what does that even prove?

I said: everything. A nail! And then quickly closed the door to the shower.

Before I took a shower I took a whiff of my trusted stick and got under the water. The music started ringing in my head, the techno repeating rhythm, warm waterfall on my eyes, tingling fingers, heart beating faster, and soon I was seeing completely different things. I went places, visited villages, saw images and pondered if those were flicks of nerves in my imagination or memories of lives past.

s I stepped out of the shower the beat got stronger a

nd I was staring at my wet ankles and feet and somehow they became two bits of the beat and I just stood there, sloped down for a few minutes listening to my own beat track. Once I was able to reach the door I opened it. Its been years since ive seen this place. My bedroom. Decades even. Who is this woman lying there?

And then I remembered and shouted:

A nail!!!

I started laughing but she was already gone.
